September 2012

The kids have gone back to school and college and the holidays are over; everyone's back to work. Its perhaps a good time to remind you all why we started Teddnet and what we're trying to do.

Everybody on the site has been personally recommended at being great at what they do by someone else who is a member.. or in a few cases, was a member.

So, if you are looking for an electrician, for example, you should always use Teddnet as your first port of call. It also means that if you use a fantastic local electrician, you should try and persuade them to join us. The more that Teddnet members do that, the more faith we will all have in the site, the more good people there will be to choose from, the more we will use it and the more work we will get from it.

To remind you, these are the guidelines about recommending someone:

We are not just asking if you know them, but that you have used their services, or that someone very close to you has.. or of course that you know them extremely well personally and have therefore got a very good idea of their work reputation.

With Twitter and all of the business networks about these days, our unique selling point at Teddnet is that we are all personally recommended and it is vital that we try and maintain this.

Artists and Teddnet member Steph Wilkinson who designed our latest poster, is having a solo exhibition this month, ‘The Decorated House’ showing 21 Sept-2 Oct 2012 at Mackenzie Gallery. Join her for a glass of bubbly at the Private View Thursday 20 Sept 6.30-8.30 pm.. Colourful new acrylic canvases inspired by Japanese prints and Swedish textile designs.

Well what a Summer its been for Teddington .. with the Olympic torch coming through Bushy Park and Bradley Wiggins flying through the High Street, not to mention the gold post box for Mo .. its all been very exciting.

We'd like to welcome our newest member Sofia Dahlquist (Marketing Consultant) and would also like to let you know about our mad/brave member Sue Croft, who is planning to swim the channel this September. Please have a read of this and see if you are interested in being involved:

Hi - I'm Sue Croft, and I’m a member of Teddnet and an osteopath with a practice covering Teddington and Twickenham, South West London.

I need your help, I had a sponsor for my pilot boat, but they have had to pull out. I am looking for a Teddington business to support me with funds. The cost of the boat for the crossing is £1,500. In return for your help, you will be mentioned in any publicity releases to the press. For example your company logo could feature on the boat and in publicity photographs, and I’ll make sure to thank you in any interviews with the papers.

I’m due to swim the channel in September, and I’m raising money to help a really important Twickenham charity, Me Too & Co (www.MeToo&Co.org.uk). All the details are here: www.justgiving.com/sue-croft-channelswim.

  June 2012

village fair 2012

This month we welcome new member Douglas Schatz of Maple Leaf Consultants.

We have had 2 successful promotional events for Teddnet during June... the Teddington Charity Weekend in the High Street and the Teddington Village Fair in Udney Park Gardens. At both events our hardy steering group team served out Pimms and chatted to passers by about our website. Notably this year, we were delighted to find that many locals had already heard of us. As usual, everyone seemed much in favour of the concept.

We now have 125 followers on Twitter .. not only does that mean 125 people see what we say, many of them "retweet" it too which means that many more people are seeing our messages. The stats show that people are looking at the online member profiles .. so if you feel you are not getting these looks converting into enquiries, then perhaps you need to rethink your paragraph and see if you can make it more appealing. A photo always helps too .. as we are a local site, your best chance of appealing to people is a photo of yourself.. although members don't always like to believe this!

pimms

Welcome to our latest new member who joined today - events planner Caroline Smith of Do Events.

Our lovely new poster created by member Stephanie Wilkinson has now been printed (thanks to great service from another member The Beechgrove Press) and is making its way round Teddington, so do look out for it.

We are also pleased to announce that we will be joining in with the Teddington Charity Celebration Weekend. We will have a table in the High St (position TBC) on the afternoon of Saturday 9th June. As a summer alternative to our ever popular Christmas mulled wine, we will be giving out free glasses of ice cold Pimms whilst talking to locals about Teddnet.. so please do come and say hello.

In case you didn't get this, the TBC are conducting a survey of local businesses.. you may complete yours here

Finally ... we now have 94 followers on Twitter .. its definitely increasing our vistors to the website, so please follow us if you can .. lets try and make it 100 by next month!

April 2012

Hope you all had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed the small amount of sunshine. A very warm welcome to our 3 new members this month:

Stephanie has just completed a fantastic new promotional poster for us which we are delighted with and you will shortly be seeing popping up all over Teddington.

Teddnet poster 2012

We are also delighted to announce that during March we saw our highest ever visitors to the website. We think this is due in part to our entry into the world of Twitter, in which amazingly we now have 78 followers, despite not really saying anything!

If you browse through the twitter feed on the right hand side of this page, you will see that we have been recommending Teddnet members regularly in response to locals requesting services. And we can see from the hits that people are clicking on the links and having a look. Whether these turn into enquiries for you will depend on how appealing your listing is .. so this is a good time to think about whether you want to add anything to your paragraph or add a photo which makes a huge difference, particularly if you don't have your own website to click through to. You can say anything you want in the paragraph really, but remember, its just plain text, and no blank lines. For any changes, feel free to email update@teddnet.org anytime.

Thank you to all the people who have set up standing orders - this will be a huge help to us, admin-wise. Its not necessary to wait until your renewal date, you can set one up anytime, just download the form here and send it to us at 80, Railway Rd, Teddington, Middx, TW11 8RZ.

Best wishes from the Team

  March 2012

Good news re our introduction to the world of Twitter - its all going very well and if you have a look at the right hand side of this page you will see that we have already managed to step in and offer Teddnet members for 4 requests for help- a painter, a roofer, a carpenter and a printer. Of course we don't know if these all turned into enquiries for you or not, but we do know that its getting the Teddnet message out into more of Teddington.

(for those who don't understand twitter .. people tweet that they are looking for someone, we see it, and we reply to them to look on Teddnet .. )

This month a warm welcome to new members Ross McKiernan (plumber) and Lily Schlaen (violin teacher).. and there are also a couple more members in the pipeline. We're really pleased to see that people have started to set up standing orders for their membership .. its cheaper for you and it really is easier all round. By the way, you don't have to wait until your subs are due before setting it up .. the form is available to download now on our home page or here: standing order form. Just complete with your bank details and send to us, and we'll do the rest. (Don't worry - no money will leave your account until your subs are due)

A new Teddnet poster is currently being designed and we will let you know when its going to start popping up throughout the town.

Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts!

twitter
Some of you have already noticed, but for those who haven't, we now have a Teddnet twitter account..... I am sure those of you who already use twitter are absolutely amazed its taken us this long.. but for those of you to whom twitter is a strange and unknown quantity, fear not .. it won't affect you at all and you won't have to do anything!

We have no plans to tweet all day, in fact none of us have time to, but what we DO want to try and do is tap into all of the local tweets that are going on in Teddington in which people are saying things such as "does anyone know a good person who can xxxx". In fact, we only set it up yesterday, but we've already caught a request for a painter/decorator!

We're playing a watchful waiting game at the moment, and taking it slowly.. but if and when it takes off, we will incorporate it into the Teddnet website so you can see what's going on. *STOP PRESS - we have now - its over there on the right!*

And of course in the meantime, if you do tweet, you can follow us on @teddnet.

money
Our second bit of news is that as from March we have decided to introduce standing orders for the £10 annual subscription collection. We hope that this will make things much easier for everybody (not least of all our poor treasurer!) and that once you have filled in the form you can just forget about it. For those that would prefer to continue to pay on a one-off basis, the subs will rise to £15 from March (so there's the incentive). The subscription form will be available to download from the website soon, but no need to do anything yet as you will receive an email with instructions.

growing Teddnet
We have big plans to grow Teddnet this year.. please have a think about anyone you know who is great at what they do and who has a business that might benefit from being listed with us.

With best wishes from the Teddnet Team
